Are You Better Than Average?

The other day, I heard the definition of an everyday word as I had never heard it before.
Average was defined as the “best of the worst and the worst of the best”.
No one wants to be average, but after putting it like that, it is sounds downright insulting or even idiotic to accept it.
Even Yogi Bear knows this, as he always stated: ‘I’m smarter than the average bear’.
So, I immediately thought of all of you because some of you are getting extraordinary results, while most are still lingering around average.
And honestly it comes down to what you are eating.
Here’s a quick exercise to try.
Simply substitute in the phrases ‘the best of the worst or the worst of the best’ for ‘average’ in the questions below.
Am I making average food choices?
Has my effort towards making a change in my eating been average?
If so, then you should look, feel and perform ‘average’.
A few weeks ago, I had a phone conversation with Robb Wolf. For those who do not know him, he is an internationally respected nutrition guru. He owns CrossFit NorCal , which was voted one of the Nation’s Top 30 gyms. He has a book coming out soon and his blog is probably one of the most popular blogs on the internet: www.robbwolf.com.
I consulted with him on how to be a better nutrition coach.
He told me that:
50% of you will get it, have amazing results and buy-in to Paleo eating.
25% of you will drag their feet , whine and complain about it and may eventually buy-in.
25% of you will never get it and are just satisfied with working out.
(The bottom 50% are really just carb addicts)
And I will basically have to deal with it and get over it. You see, I wanted
100% of people buying in. I wanted phenomenal results for all, but that was the problem I wanted it.
The results that you read about from eating Paleo are typical, but certainly not average if YOU choose to try.
But, we can’t want it for you.
So I am taking Robb’s advice and letting go.
I will say this, if you truly want optimal body composition, performance and health, eat meat, eggs, veggies, nuts, seeds, healthy fats, some fruit, little starch and no sugar.
If not, keep doing your own thing.
Just know that you will get sub-optimal—average–best of the worst–worst of the best—results.
And if that is OK with you, then that is cool with me.
